Vintage Pifco Ultra-Tonic 1034 Heat Lamp Conversion "ROBOT"

This very stylish and striking lamp has been produced from an original Pifco 1034 Ultra-Tonic heat/health lamp. Boxy, sharp lines and bright, fun colours means this light would make a perfect table, work or floor lamp.

Established in Failsworth, Manchester in 1900, Provincial Incandescent Fittings Co (or "PIFCO" as they have been known since 1957), sold a wide, affordable range of lighting, cooking equipment and other household goods. PIFCO were originally purely merchants rather than manufacturers, but upon moving into the design and production of their own products, became a formidable force in consumer electronics.

ROBOT has been completely rewired, and alterations have been made to the original ceramic E27 lamp holder to bring it up to modern standards. The lamp has been rewired with luxurious quality bark coloured linen and rayon covered cable in a fantastic zig-zag pattern, featuring a high quality black inline rocker switch 30cm from the lamp base (with another 1m from the switch to the matching black UK 3-pin plug). An internal cord grip keeps the cable sturdily in place. The lamp holder is newly earthed using three-core cable, and each lamp has been thoroughly PAT tested and approved (with a sticker affixed near the plug to show the PASS status). Components comprise of a British-made and certified plug, and Italian-made cable and switch, which have passed or exceeded relevant CE and EU electrical integrity tests.

ROBOT stands at 20cm tall (assuming the main hood is level, it extends up to 27cm when fully articulated), is 27.5cm in length and 13.5cm in width. It weighs in at just under 2.5KG. The base is in very good vintage condition, with just a few small rust spots and chips to the paintwork. This only adds to the vintage charm, however.

The lamp features an E27 lamp holder, meaning it's compatible with a broad selection of modern LED bulbs. For a more diffused light, use an LED filament bulb. This gives soft forward light, and fabulous light overspill from the heat vents. For a more focussed beam, fit an R63 or R80 LED spot bulb.

EUROPEAN BUYERS:

lumenowl lamps are configured with both the UK and European market in mind, utilising E27/E14 lamp holders and inline on/off switches. Should you wish to purchase a lamp for use in mainland Europe, I will replace the UK 3-pin plug with that of the version native to your country free of charge. The lamp will then undergo another PAT test.

NORTH AMERICAN BUYERS:

If you're purchasing from the US or Canada, I'll need to take additional further steps to ensure your new lamp works as though you'd bought it locally. The cost to convert one lamp for use in the US or Canada is £20/$25, which can be added to the listing price prior to purchase. This fee includes the following work:

- The removal of the EU/UK E27/ES brass lamp holder and replacing it with that of a brass US UL-certified E26 version. If the lamp features a smaller EU/UK E14 lamp holder, I will provide a small brass E14 to E12 adapter, enabling the use of US E12/Candelabra bulbs.
- The addition of a harp saddle to facilitate the addition of a harp and subsequently a lampshade.
- The stripping out of existing cabling and rewiring the lamp with white, UL-certified 2-core cable with a moulded 2-prong US plug and inline on/off switch.

The lamp will then undergo another PAT test.
